Monetize Your Business
There are many ways that you can monetize your blog. Firstly, you can sell products or services directly from your blog (like what I am doing with my Books & DVDs e-stores and other affiliate links). Some popular affiliate retailers include Amazon, Clickbank, Commision Junction and AffiliateBot. Vendors can also advertise your products and services on Amazon, Clickbank, Commission Junction and AffiliateBot, meaning that you are making your products available in these retailers' affiliate programmes and allowing other affiliates to promote them on their respective websites. This is a great way to maximise the exposure of your products and services.
*Do read the terms and conditions carefully before signing up. Do note that these providers do not allow affiliates to collect rebates from their own purchases. For instance, Amazon does not pay referral fees for products you purchased through your own links and Clickbank will impose penalties on accounts with positive balance but with no earnings for an extended period of time.

Secondly, you can sell your advertising space to companies who are looking to tap into your blog traffic to sell their products. In order to do so, you should ensure that your blog has a steady stream of audience and your content is relevant to the advertisers’ products or services. There are 2 types of payment modes, which is (i) getting a commission simply by displaying the advertisers’ ads or (ii) getting paid a % of a sale after your visitors purchase a product or service from the advertisers via your blog’s link.

Similarly, you can also join an ad network such as Google Adsense to promote related ads in your blog. These ads are rotated automatically and corresponds to the keywords mentioned throughout the blog. You will receive a payment either (i) on a cost-per-click advertising basis, meaning that you are paid a small amount each time a viewer click on the advertisers’ ads on your blog or (ii) on a cost-per-thousand basis where the advertisers pay you a sum for every 1000 ads advertised on your blog which is not dependent on the clicking rate.

There are many other ad networks such as Revenue Pilot,  Peakclick and Pheedo available. Each ad network has their own uniqueness such as allowing you to highlight the keywords to focus on or choosing the exact ads to be displayed. You should research each ad network in detail and choose the one that is most suitable according to your marketing strategy.

Once you have built up a certain level of reputation, you may want to consider selling paid membership to access your blog. This will create a sense of exclusiveness for your members and may boost your viewership in the process. However, do note that implementing paid membership is a double-edged sword and may turn away potential audience in the process. Thus, it is crucial to strike a balance between generating exclusiveness and building your audience base. Partial membership may then be an ideal marketing strategy that allows your non-member viewers to continue accessing your blog and at the same time revealing exclusive information to your paid members only.

Another method to monetize your blog is to sell merchandise with your blog’s brand. As your blog gains recognition over time, you can tap on the growing stature by designing your unique blog logo and then selling merchandise with your logo printed on them. You can obtain your supply of inventories from “drop ship merchants” such as WorldWideBrands and Branders who will printed your logo on the selected products and deliver to your interested buyers. With the emergence of Amazon and e-Bay, you now have a ready pool of potential buyers for your merchandise.
